More and more companies or corporations are merging and fewer but larger global companies are now dominating the market place.

This development has created an ever-increasing need for uniformed security solutions with centralised management control of all sites regardless of national boundaries.

Remote Site Connections

In the past, most remote site connections were often carried out with standard modems on the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).

Today, most larger organisations have their own WAN (Wide Area Network) linking up departments at all locations, enabling them to share data bases, e-mail systems and ease communication in general.

It is therefore a natural choice to use the same network facilities for security management throughout the organisation.

In most cases the connections are easily set up in co-operation with the local IT-departments and will make use of the existing Hub’s and Gateways.

All communication between installations on the remote sites is encrypted for security reasons. The communication will only use a fraction of the bandwidth, and not slow down other network traffic.

Access Control Applications

As many jobs involve frequent travelling to departments at various locations, many people end up having a whole range of access cards to all these sites.

Apart from the inconvenience of carrying all these cards or the inconvenience when forgetting to bring the right one, the security is often compromised due to the localised administration.

With a single access card or tag, programmed to give the required access level at each specific site, the administration is easy and manageable.

For the frequent travellers the benefits are obvious. Every one in the organisation carries one access card only.

Should the card be lost, only the main security office should be notified, and the card can be blocked throughout all the sites where it could represent a potential threat.

Alarm Monitoring

Many companies have there own guards or contracted guarding companies to look after their sites after normal business hours.

Often these jobs can be carried out from a centralised point, thus saving on operational costs and in many cases increasing the security level.

Installation of an Intruder Alarm System in combination with a Video Verification System will enable remote monitoring and control from the main security office.

The transmission between remote and the main site typically makes use of existing WAN connections.

The communication generated by the Intruder Alarm and Access Control Systems is hardly measurable on the network.

The Video Verification System will, when images are transferred, use more bandwidth but typically only during hours where the remaining network load is small.
