Card
Reader / Terminal
The
THOR Access Control System is a high security stand-alone or
networked system.
The
system’s key element is the intelligent Card Reader (Terminal),
capable of managing up to 16.000 access cards in up to 250 personnel
groups, 35 week time programmes and a large number of other
functions and features.
Equipped
with a 16-pin keypad and a 32-character display with backlight, the
Terminal is self-contained and holds all the facilities for
programming.
The
Terminal is housed in an IP 45 approved ABS case and with built-in
heat elements. With certain card technologies it can be used for
both in-door and out-door applications.
The
door control and monitoring is carried out through an S-ART
connected to the Terminal. The
Terminal and the S-ART both operates on either 12VDC or 24VDC.

Reading
Technologies
The
Card Reader/Terminal, can be delivered in several versions although
in the same housing and with the same features.
With
the reader built into the Terminal, it will work with Magstripe,
Proximity Wiegand or Chip Cards /tags or as a dual technology reader
with both Magstripe and Proximity cards/tags.
The
Terminal can also be delivered without any built-in reader, but
equipped with a reader interface for external readers. The reading
technologies supported through this interface include Magstripe,
Wiegand, Barcode and Proximity.
Networked
Systems
In
a Networked System, up to 30 Terminals can work together on an
RS-485 data-bus. If more terminals are required, up to 30 RS-485
sub-busses can be added through a number of bridges.
A
maximum of 900 Terminals can work in one system.

Integrated
Systems
In
an integrated system with both THOR Access Control and THOR Intruder
Alarm working together, the Terminal acts as a Card Reader for the
Access Control System and as a Remote Keypad for the Intruder Alarm
System simultaneously.
The
integration is complete and access into parts of the premises that
are armed by the Intruder Alarm System will not be allowed, thus
preventing fault alarms.
Programming
Though
the programming of all functions can be made on the Terminal itself
through a menu driven system, programming will typically take place
through the THOR Configuration Software package or through the THOR
Security Management System.
Both
allow the complete system programming to be carried out on a PC, in
a user-friendly Windows environment.
